Tsukada Nojo 塚田農場 for 美人鍋! @ Chinatown Point

17 April 2014:  One of our preggie friends had a craving for hotpot and the group suggested going to Tsukada Nojo for their famous collagen hotpot - 美人鍋!  This was my second visit to Tsukada Nojo and during the first visit with hubby, we didn't manage to try the collagen hotpot as it was not available during weekend lunchtime then and we had ramen instead.  We made a reservation and all of us were early and thus, we managed to secure 2 tables easily.  Heard from my friend that for this branch at Chinatown Point, they allow reservation but will only hold the table for 5 mins.
The "magical" beancurd-like collagen was presented to us.
As this was my first time having the collagen hotpot, I was given a namecard with the title "Assistant Manager".
2 of my friends (Sam and Angeline) were promoted to "Manager" as this was their second time having the hotpot.  Thus, they were "rewarded" with a complimentary basket of fries each.  They passed one basket of fries to my table where there were 3 kids.
Our friends who had tried this recommended us to order this dish:
Chicken Nanban - Original Flavour ($8.50++)
It was indeed very tasty.
 Homemade Tamagoyaki  ($4.50++)
The sweetened omelette was nicely layered into a heart and we loved the texture.  My table ordered 2 plates of this.
Waiting for the collagen to melt to form a delicious and tasty broth...
The ingredients were presented to us in this manner.  This was for 3 pax.  The standard set for each person cost $25++.

We were served a teacup of the broth for the "original" taste before all the other ingredients were added in.

We also ordered a plate of thin noodles to share.
At the end of our meal, we were served a complimentary plate of jelly on a nicely decorated plate with the staff's "drawing".

They had already pre-prepared many plates of "drawing" and were placed on the rack next to our table.
Overall, the quality of food was good and I don't mind coming back again for more collagen!

Delicious Home-cooked dinner by my Ah Ma

Have not been updating the blog for a while as I was caught with a very bad flu 3 weeks ago and visited the doctor twice!  Even now, I was still bugged by a bad cough that doesn't seem to go away.  :(  For the 2 weeks when I was down with flu, my meals were mostly uninteresting porridge or noodles.  I dare not take any fried stuff.  Until last weekend, when I went to my Ah Ma's place (Grandma), she cooked so many nice dishes that finally whet up my appetite.  The dishes sort of ended my 2 weeks of suffering caused by the flu bug.

Ah Ma was very funny, she told us that she "anyhow" cook but we all thought that this was like the "Peng Cai" that we had at Chinese New Year.  It was really a feast to the eyes.
My Favourite Prawn fritters
I only took 1 because I was still having a cough.
 More fried fritters.
 Assam Fish
 Curry Chicken

Home-cooked Japanese Curry

Cooking sometimes can be quite therapeutic.  During a weekend when I was free, I tried out the Japanese Curry recipe from Noobcook and it turned out to be very successful!  I was very happy with the results as I never thought that I could cook curry on my own!  Of course, with the "play-cheat" method, using the ready curry sauce mix, cooking curry at home is quite easy even for one who doesn't really know how to cook well.

It was quite fun cooking this dish.  Do try it out too!
