Hokkien Prawn Mee @ Bedok Corner

Took me half an hour or almost 40 minutes to queue for this famous plate of Hokkien Prawn Mee at Bedok Corner, opposite the army camp.  I normally will not queue for more than half an hour for food, but I guess that day I was too free.  Their fried hokkien prawn mee is unique in its own way.  Combination of the yellow noodle and beehoon fried in the prawn stock gave it a different texture.  The lady boss will go down the queue to take our order, always with a very stressful look.  Haha... Business too good also stressed.

Hmm....  I like my noodles with more belachan chili as tastewise, I thought it was a bit too bland, didn't have a strong flavour of the stock.  Hiaz, the famous cheng teng stall closed after I got my plate of hokkien mee.
Would you queue for this?

Pontian Wanton Noodles @ Toa Payoh

Today is the start of the first weekend spent with hubby after he came back from the States. Morning at around 10 plus, we went over to our friends' house to pass them our Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner as they would like to try the system first before investing about 3k on the cleaner.   After that, we rushed over to Toa Payoh to catch Iron Man 2 at 1pm.  We reached the box office at about 12.40pm and quickly bought the movie tickets.  We had a quick lunch at Subway before the show.  We only ordered 1 set to share as we thought after the movie, we could have a proper/ better meal.

Show ended at about 3pm and we did a bit of shopping around the neighbourhood stalls before our stomach grew hungry again.  We passed by a coffee shop that sells "Pontian Wanton Noodle" and I told hubby to have our "lunch" there.  There are many branches of "Pontian Wanton Noodles" all over Singapore, all with the same signboard.  We had eaten Pontian Noodles quite a few times at Sengkang Square Kopitiam and we like the springy noodles with the black sauce, and also the fried wanton.  This time round, I reminded hubby not to order the noodles with chilli sauce as their chilli sauce is very hot and I don't like it.  Prefer the normal black sauce.  On their signboard, it states that the noodles will not soften (ie turn soggy) even you have it take-away.  I think this is definitely a plus point for them.

I have not been to Pontian to taste the authentic Pontian Wanton Noodles there.  I wonder whether these Pontian noodles in Singapore taste similar to those in Pontian?

Tour around Marina Bay Sands

Yesterday night, my parents decided to go and explore Marina Bay Sands. I suggested to dad to park our car at Marina Square and we could take a slow walk over to Marina Bay Sands via the new Helix Bridge. :) As such, we also had our dinner here. We were not very hungry so we just settled at Jiaxiang Kuching Restaurant for a bowl of Kolo noodle each. Most importantly, there was no queue and we didn't have to wait for too long before our food arrived. The menu varieties are quite limited. For noodle, you either choose the normal Jiaxiang Kolo mee ($6) or their special Kolo mee ($8.90) which include abalone and fried wanton. I loved the texture of the noodle but hated it when I found a lump of noodles not loosened up properly in my bowl. I vaguely remember that I did have good memory of the kolo mee here and thus I recommended this to my parents. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the fried wantons dipped in mayo/ chilli sauce.
After dinner, we did a bit of shopping before heading to Marina Sands.
Walking through the Helix bridge is like walking through an aquarium, with many mirrors above you.
Don't forget to peep up to see the Marina Sands Hotel
We saw many of these with combination "g and c" and "t and a" on the floor of the Helix bridge and we couldn't figure out what are their functions.  Anyone can enlighten us?
One of the many "Joints" of the Helix bridge
The ending section of the Helix bridge leading to the shopping mall is still not ready yet but you can peep through the "window".  Haha... This photo is funny.  Only my mum is real, the rest of the "people" are all pictures.  From far, they all look very real.
More photos of the bridge.  All pictures taken using iPhone.  I was quite surprised that iPhone can still capture the following photo quite nicely.  I only brighten up the photo a bit.  Not too bad right?
Can still see all the construction work at the backdrop
A not very nice view of the hotel
Here we are... Welcome to Marina Bay Sands!!
Interior of the shopping mall
Most of the shops were not opened yet but you could take this opportunity to take photos with the beautiful advertisement boards... All branded stuff...
Casino... where most of the crowds gather...
There is a food court here at the expo but I think it is located here temporarily only
There might be a fountain here
The theatre
The Lotus-shaped Museum (Still heavily under construction)
The Casino
Managed to take a sneak shot of this using Iphone again
The Marina Bay Sands Hotel
"Wire-mesh" art piece hanging high up above the Rise Restaurant
Miniature of the whole Marina Integrated Resort
Very "Colourful" Business Centre
Ok... .This marked our end of our Marina Bay Sands trip.

Yumen Hut @ Downtown East

I got to know about this shop from a Channel U variety show. The owner of Yumen Hut owned a noodle factory and if I am not wrong, he also invented the 2-ply noodles. The noodles are very colourful (green, yellow, orange etc) as they are made of different coloured vegetable extract such as carrot, spinach, pumpkin.  His noodles are all made of 100% vegetable extract with no artifical colour and preservative.  Thus, if you are on a healthy diet, you can come here more often. Price is very affortable, range from $3.80 to $4.50 per dish. To our muslim friends, this stall is also halal certified.

I ordered the pumpkin noodles in pasta sauce. Frankly speaking, I would prefer my spaghetti in pasta sauce as it is more "q". Anyway, here is my plate of pumpkin noodle with very simple ingredients that you can prepare it yourself at home:

You can cook your own healthy noodles by buying the dry noodles "Oodles" which come in 3 delicious flavours: sesame and pandan, soya and pumpkin , spinach and paprika and bring them home to cook in your own style!
