Tiong Bahru Bakery by Gontran Cherrier

I need to make a trip down to Tiong Bahru during one of the weekdays to do some admin work.  As the Tiong Bahru Market was closed for cleaning up on the same day, I then decided to have my brunch at Tiong Bahru Bakery.  This was my first time dining in here, but on my own.

These buns were so pretty to look at!  The front three buns reminded me of "Pac-Man", with the mouth open.  Haha...  Which buns caught your attention the most?

I had a cup of flat white ($5.50) and was very pleased with the very defined coffee art that they had for me.  :)  The heart shape was very nicely done.

Some of my friends who saw this said it was gross!  The Squid Ink Bun!  There's lots of greens in the bun, together with smoked salmon and ham.  It was quite nice but of course, the saltiness of the smoked salmon overwhelmed the taste of the squid ink bun.  How does squid ink taste like?  I Dunno! LOL!  

My nice brunch of the day in a very comfortable setting.  :)

Donq Bakery @ Takashimaya

A new bakery at the basement of Takashimaya!!

Quite pricey... just these 2 already cost $5.20.

Spinach sausage bun, one of their best-sellers but I didn't really like it... a bit sick of sasuage bun.

I prefer this one - apple sweet potato bun.  Nice!  

Pepper Lunch Express @ Raffles City Shopping Centre

Today I have one whole free day on my own. Decided to go down to City Hall to do some shopping and also to get a pressie for my student who has invited me to her birthday party tomorrow. I wanted to try the tempura again from Tenya but was disappointed that the stall was no longer there. Has it closed down or relocated? I am not too sure. Thus, I decided to settle for Pepper Lunch Express.

Ordered the Unagi with egg :)

Actually the unagi was already cooked, but still got to stir everything including the egg till it became like this:

Of course, I added in a lot of honey brown sauce and the garlic source to give it a stronger favour.

After shopping, I bought some bread from "Epidor - Four Leaves" bakery and of course not forgetting my favourite cheese and onion focaccia bread for dinner. 

Yamazaki @ Tampines 1

My little breakfast (motivation to wake up early) today..... I will usually skip breakfast during the holidays as by the time I wake up, it is time for lunch. Today, I make it a point to wake up earlier to have breakfast, at the same time also to tune myself to the normal routine. Tomorrow got to wake up the same time as normal school day as there is staff contact time at 8am. :( Time flies....

This is green tea with red bean cake. It is not very firm and once you bite on it, the cake crumbs will fall all over and could be quite a messy affair.

Charcoal Bread - Are you game for this?

Went Jusco Shopping Centre with my family during one of the weekends this month and we saw many bakeries selling bread that are black.  Seems like the "IN" thing so we also bought 2 packs to try.  Each pack only has 3 slices of bread.  These charcoal bread has no charcoal taste and in fact, they taste very sweet.  I quite like the bread and it is very soft too.  Think sooner or later, this idea will be imported to Singapore as well.

Yamazaki Boulangerie Chaude @ Tampines 1

After my dinner at Manpuku, I did a bit of shopping at Tampines 1 before heading back home. As I went down the escalator to the basement, I saw a long queue at this bakery shop. Out of curiosity, I went in to have a look and ended up buying the following:


Mini Mochi sesame bun - I saw these weird looking stuffs almost on everybody's trays so I took 3 as well. After trying, I found them a bit too salty but good for snacks though.


All time favourite amongst many - Ah Pan (Red bean paste flat bun)

I also bought this as somehow it looked like a healthy snack :)

Petit Provence @ The Central

Went shopping today at The Central. Petit Provence (A Japanese Bakery despite its French name) has a branch here, so I went to check it out as well. This one at The Central is just a very small bakery shop, unlike the one at Holland Village. I bought 2 Choco Wassant and 1 Cream Wassant for tomorrow's breakfast. Each cost 60 cents, a bit expensive for such a little small piece. They are also sold in pack of 10, costing $6 each pack. I wonder why if we buy more, still no discount? I had not tried them before but I had heard that they are so popular that if you go to the Holland Village main branch, they are always sold out.


Hmm... Feeling a bit hungry now. Not too sure whether the Wassants will be able to survive until tomorrow morning. Haha! :B
