New Ubin Seafood @ Sin Ming Road

My parents wanted to give me my birthday treat in advanced for me as they would be away in Indonesia for their holidays during my birthday.  Hubby suggested going to New Ubin Seafood as he had tried their steak before and he said all the food was great.

Hubby made a reservation at 11.30am for 4pax (my brother was in Korea so he couldn't join us) and we reached there slightly earlier when there was no crowd yet.  We were given a seat just in front of the water feature on the left.

 We all ordered lime juices as it was complimentary.

 Fried Mee Special ($12/ S)

We could find many sea of goodness here such as baby squids, clams in a thick gravy and topped with lots of lard.  We all loved it very much.

 US Black Angus Ribeye Steak ($12 per 100g/ min 500g), served with caramelized onions, idaho potato wedges on a wooden platter.  Condiments include sea salts, ketchup and wasabi sauce. 

Most people visit this restaurant for the steak.  This is a must-order!

We had our steak "Medium Well" and it was so flavoursome and juicy!  You could feel my happiness as I chewed each cube of steak in my mouth. 

 A plate of fried rice will also be served to you if you ordered the ribeye steak.  It was actually fried with the fats from the beef!  You can eat this on its own.

 My dad doesn't take beef, so we ordered Signature Meat Platter for him to share with mum.  It consists of Kurobuta Ribs, Chicken Satays and Smoked Duck Breast.  ($50/platter)   

Hong Kong Kailan Special - prepared in two styles.  ($12/ S)

 Overall, it was a great meal!  I am missing the steak, the pork ribs and the hokkien mee now.  Hope to visit it again to also try their soft boiled egg with foie gras.

Father's Day Dinner at Saboten @ Changi Airport Terminal 1

Hubby and I went for a 11 days trip to Hokkaido/ Tokyo during last June holidays.  Our date of departure was Sunday, 15 Jun and it coincide with Father's Day.  Dad came to fetch us to the airport and I treated the family to a dinner at Saboten before catching the flight to Haneda Airport for our trip to Hokkaido!  Yes!  More Japanese food!!!  =)

Saboten is one of my favourite tonkatsu restaurant. 

 Free flow of shredded cabbages, which went very well with the sesame dressing.

Loin Katsu (Large)

I ordered Salmon Katsu instead of Loin Katsu as the staff told us that the loin katsu was only available in "large".  I was afraid that I couldn't finish the "large" portion of loin katsu and thus, I decided to go for a change.  

We were served a scoop of green-tea (matcha) ice-cream to end the meal.

Delicious Home-cooked dinner by my Ah Ma

Have not been updating the blog for a while as I was caught with a very bad flu 3 weeks ago and visited the doctor twice!  Even now, I was still bugged by a bad cough that doesn't seem to go away.  :(  For the 2 weeks when I was down with flu, my meals were mostly uninteresting porridge or noodles.  I dare not take any fried stuff.  Until last weekend, when I went to my Ah Ma's place (Grandma), she cooked so many nice dishes that finally whet up my appetite.  The dishes sort of ended my 2 weeks of suffering caused by the flu bug.

 Ah Ma was very funny, she told us that she "anyhow" cook but we all thought that this was like the "Peng Cai" that we had at Chinese New Year.  It was really a feast to the eyes.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Hope the past few days of the New Year had been smooth sailing for you so far!!  :)

How did you spend your New Year Day?  Well, for me, I went to my 3rd Aunt's place for potluck party!  They decided to host us as they had just done with renovating their house.  As usual, we had lots of food prepared by my Ah Ma (Grandma) and all the aunties.

 Ah Ma prepared Mee Siam and Fried noodles.  At first, I thought it was bought from outside as the presentation was so nice right?

2nd Aunt attempted to make Hakka Yam Abacus Seeds. ( 算盘子)

 My cousin (vegsmoothiebunny) prepared a salad of broccoli, celery, mango etc to encourage us to eat healthy.  She had a very interesting and informative blog on healthy eating.  Do check it out!

I prepared my "specialty dish" - Baked Portobello Mushrooms with Ham and Cheese.  Glad that my family, especially my youngest cousin liked them and requested me to bake more next time.  I bought the mushrooms from Giant supermarket near my place.  In each pack, there were six giant portobello mushrooms.  The mushrooms looked very big and so I bought only 2 packs.  However, the mushroom will shrink to about half the original size after baking.  Theses bite sized baked portobello mushrooms served as a very good snack!

The nice view that they used to have is now partially blocked by the new blocks of flats.

After this family gathering, I went over to the newly opened Bedok Mall to meet my secondary school buddies.  So happy to spend my New Year Day with my loved ones.

Family X'mas Party

We had a family Christmas Party on 25 Dec 2012 (Tuesday) at my third aunt's place.  This year, we decided to bring back gift exchange again to add more excitement to the party.  As I just came back from an  overseas trip, I decided to order Sakae X'mas Sushi Tray to bring to the potluck party for convenient sake as I didn't really have the time and skill to cook nice food.  

This year, Sakae Sushi came up with 2 types of Christmas Party Tray - Happy or Starry Sushi Tray.  I ordered the Happy X'mas Tray at $69.90.

Very tasty starters - Cheese Sticks and Fried Corn Fritters.

 My cousin Krystal who enjoyed the cheese sticks very much.  This chatty girl can talk non-stop for hours without feeling thirsty.

She could interrogate my brother, who is normally very quiet and "forced" him to talk.

 Except for the sushi, all the rest of the food were prepared by my aunties and granny.

 My aunt's neighbour who would always bring his 2 prestigious cats for us to see everytime we are here.  He is very nice to allow us to touch the fur of the cats and take photos too.
