Mother's Day Celebration at Jing Long 金隆 @ Bedok North

Once again, like previous years, we had our mothers' day lunch with my family (maternal) at Jin Long Seafood Restaurant at Bedok North again.  However, again due to Mothers' Day crowd, we waited near 45 minutes before our first dish was being served.

Presentation of the first dish was good and I was looking forward to other dishes with much anticipation.  Ok, the first dish passed., the crepe was tasty.  :)
Next being served:  Shark Fins.  Not bad too.
 Deep-Fried fish
However, we were rather disappointed with the food from this dish onwards.
The cornflakes on the Coffee Pork Ribs, to us, didn't serve any purpose.
 Another ordinary veggie dish.
The family complaint that the same type of veggies were being served for the next dish, though this time there were dried oysters and mushrooms.
We were all shocked when the last dish served was actually braised pork with rice when most of us were already quite full.  The way the dish was served looked very unappetizing as well.  Thus, I think again, this dish should be tweaked eg. served without the rice and improve on the presentation, if it were to be part of the set menu.
The desserts was fruit jelly served to each of us in individual small plastic containers.  I didn't bother to take photo of this one.

Overall, compared to last year, we had quite a number of complains with regards to the dishes served in the Mothers' Day Set Menu this year.  We feedback to the manager, and not sure whether because of this, she gave my grandmother 2 bottles of bird nest.  The cost was around $388 per table, which was steeper than last year.  Hope they will continue to make improvement to their menu.

Mothers' Day Celebration at Jing Long 金隆 @ Bedok North

My aunt had made a reservation for 2 tables of 10 at Jing Long 金隆 Seafood Restaurant at Bedok North to celebrate Mothers' Day in advance.  I guess many others who were in the restaurant were also celebrating Mothers' Day.  It was extremely crowded and we waited quite a while before our food was served.
We ordered the Daily Set meal for 10 pax at $338+ for both tables.  No service charge and there is free flow of tea and soft drink.  Food was generally good for the night which regained our confidence in them.  Our previous experience here was not that good and we thought their standard has dropped.

金隆三色拼
Jing Long triple combination

干贝海味翅
Scallops Seafood and shark's fin

蒸红斑
Supposed to be "Mei Cai" steamed Red grouper but instead of the pickled vegetables, aunt changed it to "Chai Po"  The fish was really fresh and we all had our thumbs up for this dish.

台式卤肉方
Taiwan style pork
The presentation sort of "wowed" us but however, it looks better than the taste.  The meat was rather tough in this case.  I am not too sure how Taiwan braised pork should be like (Do they mean the usual "dongbo" meat?) but I thought generally, the meat should braised for hours and even the fats can melt in your mouth type.  Thus, this dish was quite a disappointment.
Topped with macademia nuts, my aunt tried to cheat us by saying those were garlic.  Haha....
Using a pair of scissors to cut through the tough meat was not easy.

带子田园蔬
Season of green w/ scallop

佛钵蒙古鸡
Mongolia sauce chicken w/ Yam ring

上鲜桂花面
Fried egg noodles w/ seafood
Deep fried prawns in oats
Personally, I don't quite like this dish also.  Normally, I like to scoop the crispy and tasty oats to eat but for this one, there were a lot of broken fried feelers of the prawns within the oats.
Look at the happy smile on my cousin's face... 'cos he got another 5 bowls of noodles to finish!  My aunt's expression was hilarious!!  Hahaha......
Ended the meal with this simple dessert:  杨枝甘香露
Mango cream w/ pomelo
However, we didn't see any pomelo fresh in it so we were not sure whether there was pomelo added in it.

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant is very popular, especially with the older folks in Bedok area.  It is highly recommended that you make an advanced reservation.

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant @ Bedok North Ave 2

The morning of National Day was spent at a temple, doing some prayings for my late maternal Grandfather.  After prayers, the whole family went to Jin Long Seafood Restaurant for lunch.  There is a 20% off for lunch.

 Pork Ribs
Brinjal with stir-fried french beans

Free Desserts served at every table, very refreshing with many different cut-out fruits like dragonfruits, strawberries etc.
My aunt and mum commented that their standard dropped by quite a bit.

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant

Celebrating my Grandfather's birthday at Jing Long Seafood Restaurant, the favourite family haunt. As usual, the restaurant was fully packed and we waited for a very long time for the food to be served. Quality of the food was still very good and it was really worth the wait. One thing I found it strange was why they would only serve all the dishes at one go after making the customers wait for a long time.  Why don't they serve the dish one by one with some time interval in between whenever the dish was ready so we won't be starving while waiting?

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant

HAPPY 2010 TO EVERYONE!!!

This was our first family dinner for the new year.  Today, we had our dinner at Jin Long Seafood Restaurant again (one of our family's favourite haunt for food, esp the old folks) not really to celebrate the new year, but simply a family dinner as my brother will be leaving Singapore on Monday to Kazakhstan
for his school exchange programme.  He will be enjoying himself in this country till mid-May.  Have you heard of this country? Think it is a country not known to many of us, including myself.  Mom and Dad will miss him badly... and terribly.....

Jin Long had shifted from the coffeeshop to its own restaurant.  Today, it was super crowded and as usual, reservation is definitely necessary or else, you will really have to wait very long.  They have an open-concept kitchen and we counted, they have about 15 chefs working in the kitchen!  The standard of food hasn't dropped despite the crowd although the price may have increased a bit due to tax and service charges.

Salted Egg Yolk Cripsy Prawn
Mushrooms and Dried Oysters in Scallop Sauce
Coffee pork ribs
Sea Cucumber Duck
Fried Fish
Double Combination Platter
Haha.... This is my brother.

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant @ Bedok North

Uncle came back from Australia and we had a family dinner with him tonight. We went to a Zi Char place in Bedok near my Grandpa's place. This place is always very crowded and on special occassions like Mothers' Day, you will need to make reservation in advance.

Crispy Tofu with fruits/ pork floss & Roast Duck Rolls

Sweet and Sour Fish Slice

Wasabi Prawns

Not too sure whether it is due to my flu, I couldn't really taste the Wasabi. It tasted more like just normal Mayonaise prawns.

We also ordered other dishes like baked sweet and sour pork ribs, hotplate tofu, roasted chicken, mixed vegetables. Overall, the food here was good and value for money. If you don't mind the crowd and noise level, you can give this zi char place a try :)
