Longevity Buns from East Ocean Teochew Restaurant

Sister-in-law ordered longevity buns from East Ocean Teochew Restaurant for my mother-in-law this year.  Last year, I ordered from D'Bun from Joo Chiat.  The restaurant was relocated to Takashimaya and we went to collect the longevity buns in the afternoon.

Since we were not having our dinner here, we had the longevity buns take-away.
Nice and creative packaging.
I took a peek before bringing it to the in-laws' place.
At my in-law's place

There was actually a surprise element in the big longevity bun.  Heehee....

Hi! Is the big bun edible?

Yes, it is. Same ingredient as the small ones but without the lotus paste, so may taste quite plain on its own. Left it at my in-law's place, not too sure what they do with it. I only ate the mini lotus paste buns.

Hi hi,

Thanks for sharing about the longevity buns. I'd like to find out whether these were tasty or were they rock hard when cold? Was it necessary to steam them before serving?

Thanks!

They were quite tasty and we warmed it up with microwave. Not rock hard when cold unless you put in the fridge.

Hi thanks so much for you effort to post this article online. I no need to crack my head over our grandma's 60th birthday!

Cheers!

Crystal Jade Kitchen sells nice longivity in 3 different combinations. Check out at http://www.crystaljade.com/assets/Uploads/DAILY-Longevity-Bun-2011.pdf

I got them for Dad Birthdays last year and it came packed in a basket. Good thing is you can collect in the location nearest to you. Prices are very reasonable too.

Crystal Jade also does a sponge cake with peaches in the shape of Longevity Bun which I also ordered a couple of years ago, The sponge was very soft and the cake was quite good. See product CF 11 at http://www.crystaljade.com/assets/Uploads/MBCake-Album2012.pdf
