Yum Cha on Mothers' Day @ Chinatown

Sis-in-law organized a family meal on Mothers' Day morning.  She suggested going to "Da Dong Fatty Weng Restaurant" but only when she reached there, she realized that the restaurant was closed for renovation.  Thus, while we were still looking for a carpark lot, sis-in-law and her hubby went to look for another restaurant.  They settled at "Yum Cha".  At around 9.30am, the queue wasn't that long and they managed to get a table even before we found a carpark lot.
We only ordered dim sum as it was still early in the morning, we didn't want to go on heavy stuff.  Moreover, hubby and myself got to rush over to another Mothers' Day lunch almost immediately after this meal.  Did you spot some black dim sum here?
Closer look.. They were Squid Ink Dumplings.  Tastewise, they didn't taste really very different from the normal siew mai.  The squid ink simply just added a splash of black to these dumplings, making them looked more unique.

Mother-in-law enjoyed all these chicken's claws by herself.

I quite liked this one - Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice.  The rice was fragrant and soft, and blended well with the meat within.  Do give this a try if you have a chance to dine here.
As the restaurant was very crowded, it was quite difficult to get the push-trolleys' aunties attention.  Some of them were being "hijacked" at certain tables and I didn't manage to get my order of the sesame mango fritters.  Argh...
Overall, the dim sum were quite ok, but probably due to the crowd, service was rather slow  However, I won't blame them as I could see that they were trying their best to serve us our orders.  At least, they refilled our tea frequently.  After we left the restaurant around 11am, there was a horrendous long queue at the entrance.  We counted ourselves lucky that we didn't need to queue by arriving early in the morning.

Do you like to dine out on Mothers' Day?  For me, if I have a choice, I would gladly choose any other normal day to give my mum a treat.

Thai Village Restaurant @ Kallang Leisure Park

This is considered a belated mothers' day dinner treat from me for my family. Mummy chose the venue and also the date as she didn't want to "fight" with the crowd on the actual mothers' day itself.  She also wanted to utilize the $50 discount voucher that she cut out from newspaper. :)

Nuts and Pickles ($6)  This was really expensive!!
Lots of beansprouts.... to be put into the sharkfin's soup
Sharkfin with Crab Meat ($98)
Sorry to people who support sharks protection.  Frankly speakly, I am not too sure why my parents and many older folks love this dish.  I will not go to a restaurant and order this for myself.
Deep-fried beancurd ($12)
Seafood Fried Rice ($24)
Chinese Spinach Soup ($18)
Baked Duck Web ($20)
My mummy....
Total bill was $183 before Service Charge & GST.  After the $50 discount and adding back the additional charges, the bill still total up to $160.

Mothers' Day Celebration at Jing Long 金隆 @ Bedok North

My aunt had made a reservation for 2 tables of 10 at Jing Long 金隆 Seafood Restaurant at Bedok North to celebrate Mothers' Day in advance.  I guess many others who were in the restaurant were also celebrating Mothers' Day.  It was extremely crowded and we waited quite a while before our food was served.
We ordered the Daily Set meal for 10 pax at $338+ for both tables.  No service charge and there is free flow of tea and soft drink.  Food was generally good for the night which regained our confidence in them.  Our previous experience here was not that good and we thought their standard has dropped.

金隆三色拼
Jing Long triple combination

干贝海味翅
Scallops Seafood and shark's fin

蒸红斑
Supposed to be "Mei Cai" steamed Red grouper but instead of the pickled vegetables, aunt changed it to "Chai Po"  The fish was really fresh and we all had our thumbs up for this dish.

台式卤肉方
Taiwan style pork
The presentation sort of "wowed" us but however, it looks better than the taste.  The meat was rather tough in this case.  I am not too sure how Taiwan braised pork should be like (Do they mean the usual "dongbo" meat?) but I thought generally, the meat should braised for hours and even the fats can melt in your mouth type.  Thus, this dish was quite a disappointment.
Topped with macademia nuts, my aunt tried to cheat us by saying those were garlic.  Haha....
Using a pair of scissors to cut through the tough meat was not easy.

带子田园蔬
Season of green w/ scallop

佛钵蒙古鸡
Mongolia sauce chicken w/ Yam ring

上鲜桂花面
Fried egg noodles w/ seafood
Deep fried prawns in oats
Personally, I don't quite like this dish also.  Normally, I like to scoop the crispy and tasty oats to eat but for this one, there were a lot of broken fried feelers of the prawns within the oats.
Look at the happy smile on my cousin's face... 'cos he got another 5 bowls of noodles to finish!  My aunt's expression was hilarious!!  Hahaha......
Ended the meal with this simple dessert:  杨枝甘香露
Mango cream w/ pomelo
However, we didn't see any pomelo fresh in it so we were not sure whether there was pomelo added in it.

Jing Long Seafood Restaurant is very popular, especially with the older folks in Bedok area.  It is highly recommended that you make an advanced reservation.
