[Media Invite] CNY Buffet Dinner at Amara Hotel

In about a month's time, we will be ushering the Year of the Dog.  Look at this yusheng which is arranged nicely in the shape of the dog, isn't this very creative?  In fact, I find the doggie face looks really cute too!  =)

On the 15 February 2018 from 6pm at Amara Hotel's Grand Ballroom, the one-time reunion dinner is opened to all guests celebrating this Lunar New Year’s 2018 Earth Dog.

The reunion dinner is followed by a sumptuous line-up of culinary haven with affordable 8-course menus which guests can choose from. The Golden Prosperity at S$68++ or Joyous Abundance at S$88 per person with a minimum of six persons per table.

For that extra posh and private dining experience, guests can take up the Imperial Fortune reunion package at S$1,888++ for a table of 10 persons. Each room comes with a fully equipped family karaoke system. The menu comes with dishes like sea urchin, black chicken ginseng soup and cod fish.  We tried the karaoke while we were having our dinner in the Grand Ballroom, it was fun!

Salad
Chilled Angel Hair Pasta with Truffle Oil and Kombu

Drunken Chicken

 Cucumber with Sesame Dressing

Homemade Beetroot Salmon

Homemade Mandarin Orange Salmon

Hot Selection
Vegetarian Treasure Pot (Pen Cai)
For a change, you may want to try vegetarian pen cai.  I think this is an interesting alternative from the usual pencai even for non-vegetarian.

Black Pepper Crayfish

Smoked Duck with Camphor and Tea Leaves (Whole)

Roasted Chicken with Spicy Sichuan Sauce (Whole)

Beef Bourguignon

Dessert Station
Instead of having durian desserts which are becoming very common, Amara Hotel introduces a variety of Chempedak desserts instead.

Chempedak Cake

Chempedak Butter Cake

Chempedak Agar Agar

Chempedak Swiss Roll

Chempedak Pudding

Chempedak Crème Brulee

During the media tasting, we had the special Pomelo Tangyuan.  On the actual reunion dinner on 15 Feb 2018, the Tangyuan (glutinous rice ball) will be sprinkled with edible gold leaves to mark the customary occasion.

The highlights are the lion dance performance where the rambunctious lions will perform “Cai Qing”- the plucking of the greens and guests can get pictures with the adorable God of Fortune mascots distributing gold ingots of chocolates.

Chinatown Chinese New Year Official Light-Up - Year of the Rooster 2017

On 7 Jan 2017, the Official Light Up and Opening Ceremony marks the opening of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2017.  Have you been to Chinatown to see the big Rooster and the street light-up yet?  If not, it is still not too late as the street light-up will continue till 25 Feb 2017!
Do you know where we could take such an awesome view of Chinatown?  Hint below...
We parked our car at the carpark here and spotted quite a number of photographers here as well.
We had our dinner at Chinatown Point first before coming back to catch the fireworks.
人山人海

The whole place was so crowded and we ended up waiting at this area, which was a WRONG choice!!!  We were totally blocked by the white cardboard from the stage and we didn't manage to catch the fireworks!  =(

These animal shaped balloons didn't fail to entertain the adults as well!  =)

The stage... We didn't watch the performance as the place was too crowded for comfort.

We have seen claw machines for plush toys.  How about this?  For ice-cream?  Furthermore, this one has guaranteed returns ie you can play till you get one!

Delifrance Lunar New Year Special

I was lucky to have won a cake and a box of 8 macarons from Delifrance through an instagram contest.  Redemption outlet was at UE Square.  I went to Shin Yeh at Liang Court to meet my friends for CNY dinner after the collection of the Delifrance CNY goodies bundle.

SWEET REUNION CAKE
- A festive cake made with yuzu, almond and pear.  ($28)

BLISSFUL PROSPERITY MACARONS
- Mandarin orange macarons that come in a golden box of 8. ($18.80)

The staff at Shin Yeh helped us to plate the cake and macarons so nicely after our dinner.  Of course, we spent quite a lot of time taking photos of this beautiful food artwork.

Wishing everyone "年年有余“ for this new brand year!

River Hongbao 2016

We went down to River Hongbao yesterday and it was so crowded!  We managed to catch the fireworks at 9pm and I did take some decent fireworks photos using my iphone 6s plus.  =)

Scattering of gold foil at 8pm.

Squeezed through the crowd to take photos of all the zodiac animals lanterns.
Today (Sunday, 14 Feb 2016) is the last day.  Do bring your love ones to enjoy the fireworks at 9pm!
