Maccha House 抹茶館 @ Orchard Central

After having a great meal at Kuriya Penthouse, we did some window-shopping around the mall before settling down at Maccha House for some desserts.  It had been quite a while that we had not stepped into Orchard Central.
My friend Sam, ordered Matcha Ice Cream Anmitsu ($7.90) which was served with azuki, jelly and tangerine.  The set came along with brown tea too.  Sam commented that this was quite nice and fortunately, she didn't really put in all the green tea sweet syrup into her dessert.  It came really useful to me when I had my share of dessert later on.
My other friend, Pauline ordered a Mixed Dorayaki ($9.90).  We were all shocked when this was served.  Not only it was huge, it didn't look like the photo of the dorayaki presented in the menu.  There was lots of whipped cream which Pauline didn't like and the whole presentation looked rather messy.
Pauline also ordered Green Tea Soda ($2.40 for Regular) and she commented it was the most bitter soda she ever had in her life!  Haha....
I thought of having something simple so I ordered Matcha Soy Milk Pudding ($5.90).  The texture was very firm and not the common bouncy type of pudding.  However, the dessert was also very very bitter!  After I poured the whole  mini-cup of sweet syrup into my pudding, I also took Sam's syrup and poured everthing into it!

Kuriya Penthouse @ Orchard Central

A mini gathering with 3 of my friends to try out the Japanese food at Kuriya Penthouse.

These are the only 2 restaurants on the 12th level, located amid the roof garden.
Entrance to the restaurant
You will be greeted by this huge display of awards that they have at the entrance of the restaurant to assure you of both the food quality and service.
Chef at work.

Neat table setting
The chopsticks that they use are very special, with both sides all pointed.  Out of curiosity, we asked one of the staff why they were designed in this manner.  The staff told us that one side could be used for eating and the other side, supposedly longer and more pointed, could be used for stirring.  They could also be used to pick up wet and dry seaweed.

The staff who was serving our table was attentive.  She opened up a small stool for each of us to put our bag.
I oredered Plum Wine on the Rock.  ($8)
See the huge ball of ice!

I ordered the Shokado lunch set - "Tsubaki".  ($42)

Starter of the Day
 My bento which consisted:
1)  3 kinds of Appetizer,
2)  3 types of Sashimi,
3)  Omelette and Grilled Fish, and
4)  Prawn and Vegetable Tempura.

The primary reason why I ordered this set was because I love sushi.  This set comes with assorted sushi!  :)

 Chawanmushi and Miso Soup.
Dessert of the Day - So pretty!
 Coffee
Hazel ordered the Shokado Bento Set, also $42.

Starter of the Day
2 types of Sashimi
Her Shokado Bento set consisted of:
1)  Grilled Fish with Appertizer
2)  Tempura
3)  Salad
4)  Rice
Sam and Pauline ordered the same type of lunch set - Shokado "Kaede"  ($37.80)
Their bento set consisted of:
1)  3 types of Sashimi
2)  Deep-fried Prawns coated with Almonds, Fried Chicken
3)  Omelette and Grilled Fish
4)  Braised Pork Belly
In addition, they also had claypot rice and pickles which were included in the set.

By coincidence, we got a Grey and Pink Combination here.
An enjoyable lunch to kick-start the "holiday"!  We were satisfied with the quality of food served and also pleased with the good service provided by the staff.
Have a Great Week everyone!

Kamado Japanese Wood Fire Restaurant @ 313 Somerset

[CLOSED]
Last 2nd stop (for makan) of the day after an already very packed afternoon. Rushed down to Somerset to meet my friends - Lijuan, Ruijun & Joyce :) This restaurant is a fairly new restaurant recommended by RJ and there is no review of this restaurant online yet, I think :P  It is also operated under The Asian Kitchen Group.
The adjacent tables are arranged too close for comfort.  Also, the chairs that they use are higher than the cushion seats inside.  Thus, Joyce and I felt a bit weird at first as we were seated much higher than RJ and LJ. :D
RJ and I had this ala-carte Unagi Kamameshi each (~ $12)
LJ ordered the Chicken Kamameshi ala-carte and Joyce ordered the Beef Kamameshi ala-carte.  Actually the restaurant only has 4 different types of Kamameshi, namely Beef, Chicken, Pork and Unagi.
We all didn't order the set because the set deal, which consists of miso soup, pickles and a side dish didn't seem to be very impressive (also not too sure what side dishes are available, we couldn't find them in the menu).
Grilled Squid ($12)
Haha.... First time seeing Ginko Nuts on grill! ($2)
Oh yah... Did I mention that this was only our 2nd last stop for makan?  Because we adjourned to Ootoya for desserts after that!!  However, when we reached Ootoya, the restaurant was full at around 9pm and we got a queue number and were advised to come back 20 minutes later.
Our desserts... Soy ice-cream and the bitter green tea cake was good!

Ootoya @ Orchard Central

This was our second visit to Orchard Central but our first time having our meal here. We left home rather early, ard 5 to avoid the long queue at any restaurant in Orchard area. I made the decision on where to eat today. Seen many good raving reviews on Ootoya and finally, today we had a chance to dine here. I decided to order the popular Atka Mackeral Fish Set $17.

Hubby ordered the Katsu Set $16.  Other than the brown sauce, it also came with wasabi dip.

After a very satisfying set meal, I was craving for the dessert and thus, our last order.

The matcha cake was really bitter but I still love it!

After meal, we shopped around Orchard Central and also, to next door 313 Shopping Mall which we had yet to explore since its opening.  Personally, I prefer Orchard Central as I find some of the shops quite interesting and also, I rather like the confusing architecture of the building and the super escalator.  313?  Just like a normal shopping mall to me.

Saw the following at Orchard Central.
This extremely tall shopper was too tall for me to capture her in one shot so we have 2 photos here........

and her heels are as tall as me!
