Strawberry Jelly Cheesecake (No bake) for your Loved ones

Last Friday, how did you spend your Valentine's Day?
For me, I went to Downtown East (Pasir Ris) after work, hoping to buy 2 small pieces of heart-shaped cheesecakes for hubby from "The Jelly Hearts", located on the 2nd level of E!Hub.  However, as expected actually, the cakes were all sold out and they were preparing to deliver all those pre-orders.  Thus, I made an impromptu decision to go NTUC to get all the ingredients to make the Strawberry Jelly Cheesecake instead.

I followed the exact recipe given by Noobcook who had adapted hers from Story of Bing.  It was quite easy to prepare this cheesecake but do take note that the chilling time for the cheesecake layer and the jelly layer is quite long, approximately 4 hours each.  Thus, it would be better if you can prepare the cake at least one day in advance.  My cake would not be ready on Valentine's Day itself but it was alright since hubby would be working till very late on that day.  We normally celebrate on 15 Feb, which is also our ROM Anniversary.

These are all the ingredients required:

1)  Making the Crust layer:

2)  Making the Cheese Layer:
Add in the strawberries...  The recipe is meant to make 9 small pieces, so there are 9 half-strawberries (9 Hearts) and I thought it can be used to symbolize our 9th Year of ROM too!  :) :) :)

3)  The Jelly Layer:

The final product:
Yay!  My strawberry Jelly Cheesecake made with LOVE!

Kki @ Ann Siang Hill

After our lunch at Maxwell Market, we decided to take a slow walk and do some photography around the area.  When we reached Ann Siang Hill, I decided to google for the address of Kki, a cake shop which I had read in many blogs.
Cake counter
Kki is a small little patisserie with only 4 tables inside the shop for the customers.  There are another 2 tables outside the shop.  I asked hubby to sit at the table outside first while I would go in and place our order.  When I reached the counter, I asked for the beverage menu first since I already knew what cake I wanted to order (I am a chocolate lover!).  The lady boss immediately highlighted to me that in order to dine in the shop, customer must order at least one cake.  Seriously, I was a bit put-off by her statement as I thought this should not be the way to welcome a customer to your shop.  Anyway, I humbly explained that I already knew about the varieties of cakes that they had and I just wanted to have a look at the beverage menu.  :(

Anyway, I ordered a glass of jasmine gryphon tea ($3.50) for myself and a cup of latte ($4.50) for hubby.

Little Red Riding Hood ($8.50)
I must admit that their cake was really good.  Very rich and dense chocolate with a raspberry core.  I was really tempted to try other pretty cakes but I don't quite fancy take-away.  Clumsy me might crush the cake on my way home.
You can also find "The Little Drom Stall" within the same shop.  You can find vintage toys/ items here but mostly quite expensive.

Lunch at Magic Wok @ E-Hub!

Lunch with my parents on Mothers' Day itself.  The cake that I ordered online was finally delivered after one day delay.  They couldn't cope with the overwhelming response and many customers couldn't get their Mothers' Cakes on time.  :(

The restaurant was pretty crowded but we managed to get our seat quite fast.

"A Reason to Smile" - Still pondering over where to get your Mothers' Day cake?

To raise funds for Operation Smile Singapore and in commemoration of Mothers’ Day, the Pastry chefs from The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore and Singapore Marriott Hotel will team up to bake 10,000 Valrhona Chocolate Banana cakes; each 500g cake is priced at S$28 and profits will be contributed toward sending medical and support volunteers from Singapore to our Asian neighbors for treatment of children suffering from cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

I had bought 2 to show my support for this charity project.  If you are interested, this is the link for you to order:  http://www.areasontosmile.com.sg/

About Operation Smile:
Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity that provides free surgery to children with correctable facial deformities like cleft lips, cleft palates, facial tumours and burns. Since its inception in 1982 Operation Smile volunteers have treated over 160,000 children around the world through its presence in over 50 countries. There are over 5,000 credentialed medical volunteers from 79 countries who offer their services for free. Operation Smile Singapore is a Resource Centre that exists for Asia, providing many of the resources required by Asian beneficiary countries. The Singapore chapter aims to instill a sense of volunteerism among Singapore residents, and also expose local medical professionals to complex medical conditions not prevalent here.

Tampopo Day Out @ Liang Court

Met up with the gals for lunch at Liang Court to catch up with one another and also to share SL's joy as she is happily 4 mths pregnant already.  :)  We were a bit kiasu and arranged to meet at 11.45am in order to avoid the long queue.  However, none of us except SL made it on time and we smsed one another that we would be late.  Haha... I was the last one to arrive and when I reached, the rest told me that they had placed their order.  They all ordered the same type of ramen, which was the Black Pig Shabu Ramen which the restaurant was famous for.  It was supposed to be spicy but my friends all requested that the chilli flakes to be served separately.  According to them, the soup seemed to be a bit bland and they all added lots of chilli flakes into the soup in the end.
I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen as I like fried pork cutlets.  However, I think this was a big let-down.  I would not comment much on the ramen as I think it was quite ordinary, nothing to wow about.  When I took the first bite of the pork cutlet, I spat it out as it was a whole piece of fat!  Eeeeek!  The other pieces were also very "fat" and hard.  So disappointing.  The soup was pretty spicy and I guessed all other tastes were already overpowered by the spiciness.  This bowl of ramen had failed to impress me and I am really not a fussy eater, really. :(
Clam soup
Service was ok although my bowl of ramen came first although I was the last to order.  My friends waited for quite a while for their ramen to arrive and they thought their orders were forgotten.  As most of the staff were PRCs, my friends joked that we were like eating in a Chinese restaurant, no "Japanese feel".  When eating the Japanese ramen, we all had the feeling that we were like eating Chinese Dan Dan noodle or some sort.  No offence.

After lunch at Tampopo, we went to Meidi-ya to do a bit of shopping.  I bought a box of miso paste.  Craving for desserts as usual, we settled at Tampopo Deli.  We almost missed this place as it was located at a very secluded corner at the basement of Liang Court, opposite Meidi-ya.  We looked at the nice collection of cakes, tarts and puddings that they displayed.  We were like wanted to try everything out!  So, as usual, we ordered 5 different items to share amongst the 5 of us.  We were really very impressed with their cakes, very fluffy and moist.  Texture of the chiffon cakes was soft.  Much better than the ones we had at Royal Copenhagen.

I also bought a cheese chiffon cake for hubby who was at home.  Would be back soon!

Grandfather's Bday Celebration

9 May 2009 (Saturday): Celebrated my grandfather's birthday at my parents' place. We bought and ordered lots of food. We had fast food, home-cooked food, zi char, cakes, desserts...
Fast Food:
I ordered pizzas from Pizza De France again. The "Sunshine Fantasy" pizza was the most popular one, followed by the BBQ chicken pizza. This time, I ordered the "Cheese Fantasy" pizza but the pizza looked very different from its website.

2nd auntie ordered fried chicken from Arnold at City Plaza.

Arnold's Fried Chicken

So many buns.. we dipped them into the curry gravy from the fish head curry instead.
Zi Char:
My dad bought many packets of Zi Char...

Fish Head with Mixed Vegetables

Roasted Duck

Home-made:
My 4th aunt made these dumplings..

Think my mum cooked these...

and here is my little contribution other than the pizzas...
Oops... forgot the colouring. But my youngest cousin Krystal liked to eat them :) My granny also gave me my support... Haha..
5th aunt also made some cakes and desserts.
Last but not least, we bought a small little chocolate cake from Prima Deli.
