Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant @ Horne Road

October birthday celebration for my Multiply friend - Eeling and her daugher, Ji Hye.  The venue chosen this time round was at a Zi Char non-airconditioned place around Lavendar area.  One of our friends frequent this place very often and she suggested coming to this place for affordable and quality Zi Char fare.  Lai Huat Seafood is famous for their Sambal Belachan Fish and this dish was featured in the media.
 Cold Combination Platter
The fried mee sua was really very tasty and was served with generous amounts of ingredients such as prawns, pork slices and eggs.  Would highly recommend this dish!
 Fresh steamed pomfret
Sambal Belachan Pomfret
Very crispy on the outside and I think sambal belachan (shrimps paste), would go well with a bowl of rice.  However, I didn't take any rice for this meal.  Our friend ordered lots of food and I would want to save my stomach space for all the other yummy food!  Despite being deep-fried, the flesh retained its moist and not dry.
 Black Pepper Crayfish
The meat was too dry here and it was difficult to get the flesh out from the shell.  I definitely missed the cereal crayfish that I used to have at Teman Tebrau, Johor Bahru.  However, the increasing crime rates had sort of hinder us from travelling up.
 Crispy Baby Octopus
Fish Maw Soup with generous chunks of fish maw.
 Prawn Paste Chicken
 Home-made Tofu
Texture was soft inside but rather salty.  Some of us didn't like it and I think they also added other ingredients like squid paste into the tofu.
I was too full by the time this veggie dish was served so didn't even take a bite of this.
     Coverage on media
These longevity buns were not from Lai Huat.  My friend told us that they actually outsourced the buns.  Anyway, apart from the cute unique shapes, the buns were very dry and not very nice.  Thus, not recommended to ask them to get longevity buns for you.  You can get nice ones from D'Bun at Joo Chiat.
 Happy Birthday!!!
Overall, the food served was quite above average.  Won't mind coming back again with my family.

Back at Skinny Pizza @ Wheelock Place

Met up with my friends to go to Openrice office to redeem our gifts.  I took part in their Hungry Games contest and for the month of September, I redeemed a coffee-bean card which is valued at $28.  Cheryl from Openrice also gave us some freebies such as the Smiley fan, tissue pack and pen from Openrice.
After that, we joined the rest at Skinny Pizza at Wheelock Place.  This was my second visit to Skinny Pizza and this time, I got to try out more items as there were 7 of us, so we ordered more dishes.
There was a "3 sides for $18" promotion and thus, we ordered different side dishes to share.  The sides were served in mess tins without handles.
Harissa Prawns won thumbs up from everybody.
Truffle Fries was cripsy and nice too but need to finish it fast before it turned greasy.
Sweet Potato Nibblets, which came in big chucks, were nice but very filling of course!
Brie Cheese (Right) was tasty too.

My friends also ordered another set of 3 sides of 1/4 sausage (Chicken, Beef and Pork).
I ordered the Mixed Berry Tark drink ($7) which tasted a bit like Ribena.

My friends had the Portobello Soup ($7) which was very thick with mushroom bits.  I find this better than the Sweet Corn with Crab Soup ($7) that I had.

One of our friends had the Squid Ink Pop ($15).  Basically, all the ingredients used were the same as squid ink pizza but you got to "burst" the ball and dropped the ingredients inside.
Of course, this is a must-order pizza at Skinny Pizza - Squid Ink Pizza! ($26)

Chicken Satay Pizza ($22) which was topped with thick satay sauce.  The slice of pizza that I took, happened to have only the satay sauce without much meat, thus, a bit unsatisfying for me.  Maybe the pizza would be better if they can be more generous with the chicken meat chunks?
Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars... Looking up the dome structure at Wheelock Place from inside the building.....  Beautiful!
After dinner, we strolled along Orchard Road and chanced upon 2 "ghosts"!  Haha..... and even took a group photo with them.  But the "ghosts" looked rather friendly, don't you think so?

Fish Mart Sakuraya @ Parkway Parade

Fish Mart Sakuraya offers a wide array of fresh seafood.  We had not been here for a long time and we realized that they have already expanded their dining area in the shop.  The last time when we were here, we were seated next to the grocery and they didn't serve hot items in the past.  Now, the setting is more comfortable as there is a proper dining area with more than 60 seats.  The fresh fish in the showcase are available for sashimi, salt-grilled and deep-fry.  Sushi, bentos, cooked dishes and noodles are also available here.  After your meal, you can still do some grocery shopping for Japanese food items here.

Setting of the table.  We ordered green tea ($1.50) which is refillable.
Potato Croquettes
Seafood sushi roll
Who don't like these fresh sashimi?  We ordered 3 types - Salmon, Swordfish and Tuna.  The sashimi was really very fresh and thickly sliced.  We were never disappointed everytime we were here.

Cost of the sashimi - Norwegian Salmon ($16.85), Swordfish ($14.15) and Yellowfin Tuna ($12).
After dinner, we proceed to the cashier at the entrance to pay our bill.   The price stated in menu includes GST.  There is NO service charge. :)
